What is North River Collaborative

NRC Administrative Offices at the Almshouse in Rockland

North River Collaborative (NRC) is a multi-purpose, educational organization formed in 1976 to serve as an extension of school districts. The member districts of Abington, Avon, Bridgewater-Raynham, East Bridgewater, Hanover, Rockland, Stoughton, West Bridgewater and Whitman-Hanson work together to provide high-quality, cost effective educational programs and services. The Board of Directors is comprised of designees elected from each of the member districts' School Committees. To view the North River Collaborative Organizational Chart click here.

NRC believes that all students should be challenged to learn in a caring environment which respects diversity and values lifelong learning. Our goal is for all of our students to become independent, productive citizens who are successfully integrated into their community. We are proud that our students are challenged to learn in caring, inclusive environments within our member district schools.

NRC is multi-purpose collaborative providing programs to over 200 students with disabilities ages 3 to 22 from our member districts and over 20 surrounding communities. The Collaborative provides over 800 students with educationally related services such as speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and English language instruction.

NRC provides a variety of educational programs.

NRC also has a highly regarded Professional Development Program offering a wide variety of courses and programs to more than 3,000 regular and special educators in southeastern Massachusetts. NRC also acts as a networking agency for the members school districts by conducting regular meetings of the Board of Directors, the Special Needs Advisory Committee, the Superintendents Advisory Committee, the Technology Coordinators, and the Curriculum Coordinators representing each of the districts.

Consolidated grant applications on behalf of our member districts is another service we offer. NRC has spearheaded the procurement of grant and foundation funding through agencies such as the Massachusetts Department of Education, the United States Department of Education, the Massachusetts Commission for the Blind, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, the United Way, the Massachusetts Mechanics Charitable Association, Target, the John Alden Foundation, the Local Arts Lottery Councils, and other public/private foundations and organizations.

NRC also coordinates the billing for Municipal Medicaid Reimbursement for participating member and non-member school districts. Since the Collaborative began providing this service in 1994 more than twenty million dollars will have been returned to participating cities and towns.

North River Collaborative’s Southeast Transportation Network provides cost effective, quality transportation for students with special needs who attend some of the private special education programs in the greater Boston/Southeastern Massachusetts region.
